Meet the pharmacist behind the mission
Dr. Vy Truong, Pharm.D.
Co-founder · CEO · Pharmacist-in-Charge
Vy Truong brings a pharmacist’s perspective and an immigrant entrepreneur’s experience to Kentucky Pharmacy. Educated in pharmacy in Boston, her journey includes leadership roles at Walgreens and CVS before building an independent, family-centered pharmacy in Louisville.
Her story connects professional knowledge with a personal commitment to listening, clear communication, and serving people from different backgrounds. This education portal extends that purpose: help people find reliable information and prepare better questions for their care team.

A better question comes before a purchase.
A familiar brand, a high price, or an online recommendation does not tell you whether a product is right for you. Use the sources here to prepare questions for a pharmacist.
This is an education guide, not a product catalog or a claim that an item is in stock. Personal recommendations require an appropriate review.
Over-the-counter medicines: read the Drug Facts
Compare active ingredients, uses, warnings, and directions—not just packaging. Ask about overlapping ingredients when comparing products. Read the FDA’s Drug Facts guide ↗
Supplements: check the evidence and interactions
FDA does not approve dietary supplements for safety and effectiveness before they are marketed. “Natural” does not mean suitable for everyone. Ask a pharmacist about potential interactions and do not substitute supplements for prescribed treatment. Read FDA’s supplement overview ↗
Prescription questions: prepare for a conversation
Use a trusted medicine reference, then ask your pharmacist or prescriber how it applies to your prescription. Do not start, stop, or change a dose based on this website. Explore MedlinePlus medicine information ↗
Cost, availability, or a pharmacy transfer?
Ask your pharmacy and plan to confirm network status, coverage, total out-of-pocket cost, and availability. A lower advertised price is not a promise of coverage or savings. Read our transfer and access guide →
Independent pharmacy · Owner education
Build the plan before you build the pharmacy.
Opening or improving a pharmacy takes more than a storefront. Work through these planning questions, then bring your priorities to a consultation inquiry. This starting guide is not a complete opening checklist or a substitute for the Board, legal counsel, an accountant, or specialized regulatory advice.
1. Community need & service model
Who will you serve, and what unmet need can you document? Map local access, competing options, language needs, and referral relationships. Choose services based on demonstrated demand, pharmacist capacity, and applicable requirements—not assumptions.
2. Permits, location & pharmacist leadership
Confirm the applicable permit, location requirements, pharmacist-in-charge responsibilities, and inspection process directly with the Kentucky Board before committing to an opening date. Requirements differ by pharmacy type and activity. Kentucky Board pharmacy permit resources ↗
3. Cash flow, reimbursement & working capital
Model acquisition cost, reimbursement, payroll, occupancy, technology, inventory carrying cost, and payment timing. Stress-test delayed payments, lower reimbursements, and slower-than-planned volume. Revenue is not profit. Have qualified advisers review contracts and financing. SBA startup-cost planning ↗
4. Products, suppliers & inventory
Compare authorized suppliers, purchasing terms, delivery reliability, returns, recalls, expiration management, and storage needs. Build inventory around demonstrated demand. Stocking a product is not evidence of clinical suitability.
5. People, systems & privacy
Plan staffing, training, documentation, dispensing workflows, appropriate security controls, and a secure route for patient information. Keep general web inquiries separate from clinical records. Technology should support accountable pharmacist judgment.
6. Launch, measure & improve
Set a realistic opening plan after required approvals. Track service capacity, patient follow-through, inventory losses, cash flow, and sustainable contribution after costs. Define consultation deliverables and fees in writing; no adviser can guarantee permits, payer contracts, or profitability.

What to know before booking
Free public learning remains available through our online course and newsletter. Paid sessions include a brief written takeaway appropriate to the agreed service. Additional business work is $250/hour, billed in 15-minute increments ($62.50), only with prior agreement. Any additional preparation, coordination, follow-up or expenses require an agreed quote.
Ask whether routine care or a covered service already meets your needs. Eligible Medicare Part D members may receive medication therapy management at no cost through their plan. Read Medicare’s guidance ↗. Coverage and applicable payer requirements must be checked before private-pay booking; no duplicate billing for the same covered service.
Patient-specific services depend on pharmacist assessment, applicable licensure, scope and privacy arrangements. These rates do not promise reimbursement, prescribing, medication changes, health outcomes or business results. Cancellation and payment terms are provided before acceptance or payment. Sending an inquiry does not subscribe you to marketing texts.
If a messaging app does not open, text 502-694-2441 manually or call the same number to request an appointment.
Understand the business · Check the evidence
Independent pharmacy matters. The economics need context.
Pharmacies face reimbursement, inventory, staffing, and access challenges. The responsible response is clear information, careful planning, and service that meets real needs.
A significant community presence.
NCPA estimates 18,988 independent community pharmacies in 2026, broadly stable against 2025. Its report highlights an industry still heavily dependent on prescription revenue. These are industry data, not Kentucky Pharmacy’s results.
Read the industry association’s report ↗Payment arrangements deserve scrutiny.
FTC staff found substantial markups and payment differences involving selected specialty generic drugs and major PBMs. This interim study concerns a specific market and study period; it does not establish every pharmacy’s experience.
Read the FTC findings ↗Compare the actual plan and medicine.
GAO found varying payment and patient-cost patterns across four selected Part D sponsors using 2023 data. Its results are not generalizable to all plans or years. No pharmacy type is automatically cheapest for every person.
Read the GAO report and limitations ↗Sources checked October 30, 2026. Publication year and underlying data year may differ. Linked sources explain their methods and limitations; they do not endorse Kentucky Pharmacy.
Your next conversation
Good questions make room for understanding.
- What is this medicine intended to do?
- How do I follow the instructions for my prescription?
- What should I ask about other medicines or supplements I use?
- What changes or concerns should I report, and to whom?
- Who should I contact about access, cost, or refill questions?
Can I use this portal for personal medical advice?

Does learning here provide a professional credential?
No. These public resources do not award academic credit, continuing education credit, a certificate, or a professional license.
How do I confirm current pharmacy services?
Contact our team before planning a visit or requesting a service. Location, hours, dispensing, delivery, and transfer availability must be confirmed directly.
What can I send in an initial message?
Start with a general question and a callback request. Do not send prescription photographs, insurance information, or other sensitive health details through ordinary text or email. Ask the team how to share information securely.
